He had USS lapon, USS segundo, and USS Blackfin tatooed on his shoulder. He passed away in October of 97. I couldn't find him on any of the crew lists. He was very private about the war. Does anyone remember him? He was listed on one set of crew lists but do not see anything on him on your crew lists. He passed away a few years ago. Her husband, My Uncle has a Service record, with medeals on the wall behind his chair. I looked to see what it was. It was his service record & medals on the USS Segundo. MY Father was medic On the Tarawa/Marshall Is. Campaigns. He saw the bloodshed, & would not talk of those days. He never told me his brother in law was a Radioman on the Segundo. I now know that Paul LeMaire, & my Father are now hero's of WWII. My father Jefferson Masters was also aboard the USS Segundo. My father passed when I was 17.He was much older than my mother and was approximately 45yrs of age when I was born.My parents were together off and on for many years and finally stayed together when I was a teenager.At the time I thought other things were more important and never got to really know him. I think hearing all of his sea stories as a kid is what influenced me the most in my decision to volunteer for submarines. things have changed a lot in the last 50 years but submariners are still the same fun loving, dysfunctional band of brothers my Grandpa Bob told me about. Sitting across from me was a cobra pilot, a LtCol. Name tag - CAJKA. You guessed it – youngest son of Cdr. Anthony Cajka our skipper from 69 – 70. I knew his dad has passed and told him what a great influence his dad’s style of leadership had on me over the years.
